BECAUSE I doubt the car can idle at "0" RPMs; Zero RPMS implies the car is not running, that the engine is off, that the engine is revolving 0 times per minute. If the car is idling properly, then it probably isn't in need of an adjustment, your tachometer is on the blink.

Does it go down any further when you turn the car off while the car is idling, or is it at absolute Zero in idle to begin with?

could be that where ever the tach gets its signal from is on the blink? if for some reason the tach is not getting a signal at idle, it will not show any RPM. remember, the germans have never been noted for their electrical wizardry. wiggle all the fuses? and slam the door, gently!

The tach gets its signal from the ECM. If the car runs and the check engine light isn't on, then it probably isn't the signal to the tach that is bad. I vote that your tach is crapping out. Unless you took the gauges apart to install new faces or something and didn't put the needle back on in the correct position....
